Evil Dead The Musical was every bit as wonderful as I'd hoped. The Kansas City production was pretty homegrown (lots of the cast members listed shows at Worlds of Fun in their resumes), but it seemed fitting considering that the first movie in particular had only one professional actor (Bruce Campbell) in the cast.
The plot of the musical was a mashup of the first two movies with a quickly glossed-over moment of exposition encompassing Army of Darkness, leading into the AOD ending. With lots of singing and dancing and demon masks.
It had quite the libretto. Songs included, "Look Who's Evil Now," "What The Fuck Was That?", "All The Men In My Life Keep Getting Killed By Candarian Demons," and "Ode To An Accidental Stabbing."
The first three rows of the theater were designated as the "splatter zone," and the cast members made sure to spew fake blood there as often as possible.
If you're in KC, there are four shows left. For everyone else, I recommend watching out for a touring production. It's great fun.
